2022 Legacy of Black Business Gala

Updated: Oct 27, 2022

by Carolina Panorama

Over the past decade, he Legacy of Black Business Gala (LBB), hosted by the Carolina Panorama, has honored Black Business owners and their descendants. The first Gala in 2013 honored 17 Black-owned businesses that had been in continuous operation for at least 40 years and passed down through two or more generations. In subsequent LBB galas, we honored businesses that were located in the historic Washington Street District and the Waverly Street District, as well as hosting Legacy of Black Business Galas in Orangeburg and Charleston.

This year, the Legacy of Black Business is honoring the business owners and descendants from the Wheeler Hill District in Columba. The event will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022, at the GWYNN Event Center, located at 537 Clemson Road in Columbia. The gala will begin with a reception at 6 pm, followed by dinner. This year’s keynote speaker will be Bobby Donaldson, Jr.

The event will highlight Black-owned businesses that were located in the Wheeler Hill community before the area was gentrified. A special invitation is being extended to the teachers who taught in Wheeler Hill at Florence C. Benson Elementary and Booker T. Washington High Schools to attend this event.
